After we post our monthly ratings on our best antivirus comparison chart, we usually get some questions. Typically they are same questions, over and over again. Here are a few of those questions, with our own answers underneath. Keep in mind that these answers are our opinions, based on almost 20 years of experience in removing viruses, spyware and malware of all sorts.

FAQ: Why isn’t Norton or McAfee on the Best Antivirus Comparison Chart?

Norton and McAfee used to be the biggest kids on the block. They used their marketing prowess to become household names. Norton and McAfee antivirus, in the early years, became almost synonymous with the word antivirus. But, these days, they are far from the best antivirus applications out there. Currently, both Norton and McAfee use their brand recognition to get clients, as opposed to creating a quality product that works well. They have also perfected their subscription service in such a way that it is virtually effortless to renew their product (and usually renews on autopilot). Both Norton and McAfee antivirus have formed partnerships with PC manufacturers, so that brand new machine are sold with a trial edition of their product already on the machine! This is very smart business, yes does not serve the customers best interests.

FAQ: Why don’t you have any FREE antivirus applications on your Best Antivirus Comparison Chart?

We do not include any FREE antivirus applications on our Best Antivirus Comparison Chart because we believe that when it comes to keeping your computer and your identity safe from hackers, scammers, Trojans and all sorts of other Internet evils, you should never trust your safety to a FREE antivirus product. We get computers into our shop every day that are riddled with viruses, rootkits, zombies, keyloggers, etc… and they are usually running AVG FREE or ClamWin FREE or some other FREE garbage. In our opinion, the best antivirus applications are usually not FREE. You get what you pay for in this world, and when you pay “nothing” for an antivirus application, that is usually what you get in return.

FAQ: Do you use affiliate links in your Best Antivirus Comparison Chart?

Yes, we use affiliate links. But, don’t get the wrong idea here. We do not do this for the money. If we did do this for the money, it would be a failing business… believe me. It takes time and money to maintain this site, and after all the bills are paid there is not that much left over. Maybe enough for a beer and a hotdog… and certainly not enough to put gas in the family minivan. We maintain this antivirus comparison chart to provide valuable information for all of the folks out there who are looking through the many antivirus options out there, wondering which one is the best antivirus. If that describes you, you are the reason we write this… so thank you for reading.

Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus 2012 Review

Trend Micro Titanium Antivirus 2012 ReviewTrend Micro Antivirus is a simple, effective antivirus solution that is designed to be brain dead simple to use… especially for new computer users.

Trend Micro Antivirus provides basic but still very effective protection against viruses, key loggers, Trojans, root kits, and other forms of malware that computer users are exposed to whatever they go online.

While not as comprehensive as other multilayered antivirus software products available (which also cost significantly more), Trend Micro antivirus is still more than adequate when it comes to protecting your PC from the ever evolving threats online.

And the newest version of Trend Micro antivirus utilizes cloud based security features, which enhances both virus detection and keeps your machine running smoothly while scanning.

Because Trend Micro antivirus runs a majority of the security processes online, it will detect threats online before they actually get into your computer.

And since the majority of the Trend Micro processes are hosted online, you are not clogging up your hard drive by continually downloading updated virus definitions on a daily basis.

AVIRA AntiVir Antivirus 2012 Software Review

AVIRA AntiVir Antivirus 2012 Software ReviewAVIRA AntiVir does not get all the press of the bigger antivirus programs like Norton or McAfee; but it can more than hold its own against any of them.

A lot of people seem to think that just because the AVIRA AntiVir antivirus software doesn’t get as much advertising as its big-name competitors that this antivirus program is second rate; in fact, it is just the opposite. This antivirus software is actually a little bit stronger and more effective than its bigger and more well known rivals.

Most people don’t realize that the AVIRA AntiVir antivirus software has been around for a long time; almost as long as the Internet.

AVIRA started in 1988 in southern Germany, and their AVIRA AntiVir antivirus program is one of the most downloaded antivirus programs you’ll find online.

And another thing people don’t understand, is that the AVIRA AntiVir antivirus technology has actually been borrowed, modified, and used by some of its bigger competitors. Avira has been doing antivirus software for a long time; and they have a robust antivirus program as a result.

Panda Antivirus Pro 2012 Review

Panda Antivirus Pro 2012 ReviewThe Panda Cloud Antivirus program is a cost effective solution to keeping your computer malware and virus free; and because it runs a lot of resources “in the cloud”, it is not the computer resource hog that a lot of other antivirus programs are (like Norton or McAfee).

When the Panda Cloud Antivirus program first came onto the market, it was notable for that very reason. Most of the Panda Cloud antivirus program’s “grunt work” took place in the cloud, instead on running on your local computer.

For those of you that are still wondering exactly what this “cloud” thing is all about, here’s how Panda Cloud Antivirus actually works:

Instead of harnessing the power of your own computer’s processor like other antivirus programs, the Panda Cloud Antivirus programs sends data about potentially damaging malware and malicious files directly to Panda’s servers to determine any potential risk.
