Currently, both Norton and McAfee use their brand recognition to get clients, as opposed to creating a quality product that works well. They have also perfected their subscription service in such a way that it is virtually effortless to renew their product (and usually renews on autopilot). Both Norton and McAfee antivirus have formed partnerships with PC manufacturers, so that brand new machine are sold with a trial edition of their product already on the machine! This is very smart business, yes does not serve the customers best interests.

We do not include any FREE antivirus applications on our Best Antivirus Comparison Chart because we believe that when it comes to keeping your computer and your identity safe from hackers, scammers, Trojans and all sorts of other Internet evils, you should never trust your safety to a FREE antivirus product. We get computers into our shop every day that are riddled with viruses, rootkits, zombies, keyloggers, etc… and they are usually running AVG FREE or ClamWin FREE or some other FREE garbage. In our opinion, the best antivirus applications are usually not FREE. You get what you pay for in this world, and when you pay “nothing” for an antivirus application, that is usually what you get in return.
